Food Security for Sustainable Household Livelihoods (FoSHoL)

The project is aiming at building capacity of food insecure poor firm households to enhance food security as well as livelihood security. It will critically engage the hard to reach farmers of Kalapara upazilla of Patuakhali district to innovate and adapt appropriate technical solutions to their farming problems; explore and adapt suitable marketing practices to reap higher margins from marketed products; diversity of income options of their families.

Project participants will be facilitated to establish network-linkages with various extension service providers, local institutes, civil society organizations to access and control over the services and resources. It will also build capacity of participant households to prevent income erosion through various community initiatives like community crop banking, crop insurance and preparedness to overcome vulnerability to shocks and stresses arising out of natural or other disasters.

Envisioned results of the project are expected to have significant impact through –

increased supply of foods by means of increased production;

access to adequate food through enhanced income from on-firm and off-firm income generation activities and better utilization of available foods through health and nutrition education and accessing relevant information and services.

gaining additional benefits from community crop bank and crop insurance initiatives.

strengthening social capital and safety nets as well as greater participation in local development initiatives.
